We don't publish prices. Huntsville Tree Service Pros is a referral
service — we don't perform the work, and we haven't seen your property. A published
range would mislead you and unfairly anchor the contractor who quotes the job. What we can
do is show you exactly what a contractor is pricing, so you can read a bid properly.
Why we won't quote you a number
Two crews can quote the same tree and mean completely different work - one carefully reducing specific limbs, the other topping it. We don't publish pruning prices because the price is meaningless without knowing which job you're buying.
What a contractor is actually pricing
| Factor | Why it moves the number |
|---|---|
| Height and reach | Work reachable from the ground is inexpensive. Once it needs climbing gear or a bucket, it's a different job. |
| How much is coming off | A light clearance prune and a full crown reduction are not the same work. Never let anyone remove more than about a quarter of a mature canopy in one season. |
| Debris volume | Large canopies generate a lot of brush, and chipping and hauling is real labour. |
| What's below | Pruning over a pool, a conservatory, or a neighbour's driveway means everything gets roped down instead of dropped. |
| Drop-zone access | If the chipper can't get close, every branch is carried. |
| Skill required | Proper reduction cuts at the branch collar take longer than indiscriminate cutting. You are partly paying for restraint. |
How to compare bids fairly
- Ask what specifically is being removed and why. "Trim the tree" is not a scope.
- If anyone offers to top the tree, get a different company. Topping removes the canopy the tree feeds on, triggers weak regrowth, and creates a future hazard. Reputable arborists refuse.
- Ask whether they follow ANSI A300 pruning standards. A professional knows what that means; a guy with a truck won't.
- Confirm cleanup and what happens to the brush.
- Insurance certificates from the insurer, same as any tree work.
Questions to ask every contractor
- Which limbs are coming off, and what's the goal - clearance, health, or wind?
- What percentage of the canopy are you removing?
- Do you follow ANSI A300 standards?
- Will you be making reduction cuts at the branch collar?
- Is brush removal included?

Tree Trimming Pricing Questions
Why won't you publish trimming prices?
Because we don't do the work and haven't seen the tree. More importantly, a pruning price means nothing without knowing what's being cut. A cheap bid often means topping, which permanently damages the tree.
When is the best time to trim trees in Alabama?
Late winter dormancy, roughly January through early March. Pruning then reduces stress and disease risk and the bare canopy makes structure easy to read. Dead or hazardous limbs come out whenever you spot them.
Is topping ever acceptable?
No. It removes the tree's food-producing canopy, opens large wounds to decay, and produces weakly attached regrowth that fails in storms. It converts a healthy tree into a future hazard.
How often do trees need pruning?
Most mature hardwoods in North Alabama do well every three to five years. Young trees benefit from light structural pruning every two to three years, which prevents expensive problems later.
