Why we won't quote you a number
Every property is different. The same tree can price very differently depending on what's underneath it, whether a truck can reach it, and what condition it's in. That's why we won't publish a number - only the contractor who inspects your tree can tell you what your job costs.
What a contractor is actually pricing

| Power lines | Anything near an energized line means extra care, sometimes utility coordination, and sometimes specialised equipment. |
| Size and species | Height, trunk diameter, and canopy spread all matter. Hardwoods are heavier and slower to process than pine. |
| Condition | A rotted or hollow tree is more expensive to remove, not less. It can't be climbed safely and it behaves unpredictably when cut. |
| Cleanup scope | Full haul-away, rounds left stacked for firewood, chips left or taken - these are different jobs. Decide before you collect bids. |
| Stump | Grinding is usually priced separately. Say whether you want it so every bid includes the same thing. |
| Timing | Emergency and after-hours work costs more than the same job booked for next week. Storm periods tighten every crew's schedule across the county. |
How to compare bids fairly
- Put every bidder on identical scope in writing - which trees, stump or no stump, haul-away or not, who fills and seeds the hole. Otherwise you're comparing different jobs.
- Get at least two bids. Three on anything large or near the house.
- A bid far below the others is usually missing scope or missing insurance. Ask which, specifically.
- Ask for certificates of general liability and workers' compensation sent directly from the insurer - not a photo on a phone.
- Ask how they'll get equipment in and what they'll do to protect the lawn and drive.
- Get the cleanup standard in writing, including whether they rake and blow.
- Be cautious with crews that knock after a storm, and never pay a large deposit up front.

- Are you licensed and insured, and can your agent send me the certificates directly?
- Is the stump included, and to what depth?
- Is haul-away included, or are you leaving the wood?
- Who is responsible if something is damaged?
- Will an ISA Certified Arborist be on site or supervising?
- How long will the job take, and what's the plan if weather moves it?

Why won't you tell me what tree removal costs?
Because we're a referral service, not a tree company. We haven't seen your tree, your access, or your property, and publishing a range would set an expectation we have no basis for - and unfairly anchor the contractor who quotes you. We'd rather get you two real quotes from people who actually looked at it.
Why are quotes so different from each other?
Almost always scope and insurance. One bid includes stump grinding, haul-away, and full workers' compensation coverage; another doesn't. Put every bid on identical scope and the spread usually collapses.
Should I just take the cheapest quote?
Not without understanding why it's cheapest. The common reasons are missing scope, no workers' compensation coverage, or inexperience. If an uninsured worker is hurt in your yard, that can become your problem - which makes the cheap bid the expensive one.
Does homeowners insurance cover tree removal?
Generally only when the tree has hit an insured structure such as your house, garage, or fence. A tree that falls in the yard and damages nothing is often not covered. Check your policy and photograph everything before cleanup.
