How to compare bids fairly
- Verify certification. The International Society of Arboriculture maintains a public directory you can search.
- Be careful with a free "assessment" from a company that only earns money by removing the tree. The incentive runs one direction.
- A proper report identifies the tree, states the defects observed, rates the risk, and recommends specific action with a timeframe.
- Ask whether the assessment fee is credited if you hire them for the work. Many companies do this.
- If a removal company says a tree must come down, an independent second opinion is cheap relative to the removal.

We're a referral service and don't perform assessments. Fees also vary with scope - a verbal opinion and a documented hazard report for an insurance claim are different products.
Is an assessment worth paying for?
Any time there's genuine doubt about a large tree, yes. It's a small fraction of a removal, and it's the only way to get a documented opinion when an insurer, a neighbour, or an HOA is involved.
What is an ISA Certified Arborist?
A credential from the International Society of Arboriculture requiring documented experience, a comprehensive exam, and ongoing continuing education. It's the standard credential to ask for and it can be verified publicly.
Can an arborist guarantee a tree won't fall?
No, and anyone promising certainty is overselling. What a qualified arborist provides is identification of defects, an assessment of likelihood and consequence, and a risk rating you can actually act on.
